Is Music a Luxury or Necessity Essay Example

Is Music a Luxury or Necessity? Essay Music Is Indeed a luxury but also an importance of survival. Many people who will go through tough times will listen music to keep them calm or even take them away to a fantasy world. I believe music is necessary to survival considering the amount of musicians in the world,if music was suddenly gone the world would seem very bleak and boring with no seeming light. Music can convey every single emotion and other topics such as ,Sadness, angry, happy, curious, funny. As someone who constantly is plugged in to my ipod, Cd player, or constantly playing music whenever i can it would appear to be a necessity to me. If you do the math, I would say I spend upwards of 18% of my time reading, writing, playing, or listening to music. Thats a huge number considering we spend 30% of our time sleeping. Those numbers, however, are misleading: We often multi-task while listening to music. It makes chores like homework and cleaning almost enjoyable. In fact, music makes my life in general much more tolerable, which in itself is an argument supporting it being a necessity. But do we really need music to survive? Its obvious it doesnt provide food or shelter. There are people out there who never listen to music, either because they dont have the chance or because they get no enjoyment from it. I dont think I could go a day without listening to music. Even as im writing this im listening right now. The key word is think. I get stressed if I havent listened to music in a couple days. It calms and soothes, stirs and inspires. It is intensely personal, yet can unite large groups of diverse people. Music offers an escape from reality, taking me back to precise moments in my life or forward to moments I hope to experience. I still remember buying it and listening to it non-stop I often dream about making music my profession. Whether critiquing or creating, I seem to have a passion for it that most people dont understand. At the same time, however, I want to be a productive member of society. And if music isnt necessary, how can I justify working in the industry? If music would be my profession then it would be a necessity for me to survive. Maybe one justification can be found in people like me. Music has profoundly shaped and altered my life, and for that reason it is valuable. Maybe not necessary, but important nonetheless. its an experience that is different for everyone. I dont believe I could live without music. Certain people say they could drop music all together. But music is part of us. Everything in life has rhythm, from heartbeat to breathing to walking. We all have an innate need for rhythm and music. The part of the brain concerned with music is early to develop and the last to go as we get old. Even elderly people with dementia can appreciate music after they no longer talk. I believe music is a part of all of us, no matter what we do it plays an enormous part in our lives. Music is an expression of our thoughts and emotions. Some people make music, which others can enjoy. Some can only enjoy it. I dont know anyone who doesnt like some kind of music, even if its just tapping a pen on a table. There are so many kinds of music and ways to make music out there to express ourselves; it is almost like a 7th Sense to experience music. We know good music when we hear it. We hear it, and then we feel it. Music connects with our body, our souls, and our lives.

What Should You Do If You Have a B Average GPA

What Should You Do If You Have a B Average GPA SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips It's important to be aware of the constraints your grades in high school might place on you in the college application process. If you have a B average, you're doing fairly well, but you might consider making some changes to your academic strategies to have a better shot at reaching your goals. In this article, I'll go over what a B average is and what you should do if you have one depending on where you are in your high school career. What Is a B Average, and Can It Get You into College? A B average corresponds to a 3.0 GPA, which is about average for a high school student.Keep in mind that this is the average for ALL high school students, not just students who plan on attending college.Measured against other students who are applying to college, a 3.0 GPA is lower than average.According to our database, only 21.3 percent of colleges have average GPAs for admitted students that are lower than a 3.0. This doesn’t mean that you’ll have trouble finding a school that will accept you, but it does mean you’ll have to target less selective options. If you’re hoping to get into a competitive college program, you may want to work on improving your GPA.I’ll go over some strategies for this in the next section. How Can You Improve Your Chances of College Admission If You Have a B Average? If you’re still a freshman or sophomore, you have time to raise your GPA, so you should think about adopting better study habits if you want to attend a more selective college. If you’re a junior or senior, you don’t have much time to improve your grades. In this case, focus on other aspects of your college application like standardized test scores. Here’s some advice for each of these scenarios: If You Have Time to Raise Your Grades: Study Smarter Using effective study strategies is critical for improving your grades.Tests are stressful, and if you aren’t totally comfortable with the material you might get anxious and end up with a grade that doesn't reflect your true abilities. The best way to avoid this is to spread out your studying over a longer period of time so that you can fully absorb the information. The goal is for the material to be embedded deeply in your mind rather than floating perilously on the edge of your memory (which is what happens when you cram!).Try studying for an hour every night during the week before a test rather than studying for five hours the night before. You should also make sure you’re getting the most out of your study sessions, which means enlisting someone else to quiz you after you've reviewed everything on your own. As someone with a B average, you're already doing something right with your study strategies. You probably know most of the material fairly well before each test, but you're not pushing yourself to the point of complete understanding. In order to take your grades from good to great, you will have to be vigilant about filling small gaps in your knowledge. The difference between a B and an A is your performance on the most complex aspects of a test or assignment. You may need to add an extra hour or two to your studying to give yourself enough time to reach that higher level. And if you need to eat some ice cream to get through the extra studying, so be it. Avoid Procrastination If you’re working on raising your grades, procrastination is the enemy.Waiting until the last minute to complete assignments means that you don't have time to edit or polish your work, and you’ll probably turn in a final product that doesn't accuratelyreflect your abilities. I’d recommend making a timeline with checkpoints for completing portions of long term projects to keep yourself on schedule.Try to finish all the most labor-intensive parts of a project a week before it’s due so that you have a significant amount of time to reassess your work and see if you need to make any adjustments. Don't forget to read directions carefully, and be sure to include everything you need to earn the most credit (and extra credit if available!). This final effort is often the difference between B-quality work and A-quality work. Step Up in Class This is the one of the most fundamental tips I can give you. Makea point of paying attention in class and asking and answering questions whenever possible. This will help to reinforce your knowledge of the subject and make studying much less of a pain. If you pay close attention in class, you will already have a better understanding of the material that’s on your next test. When you study, you’ll be starting from a more informed position, and the whole process will be less stressful. Some things that you thought you had to study might already be ingrained in your memory because you were listening when your teacher went over them in class. If you're already someone who pays attention and participates in class, which many B students are, you might think about taking this a step further. It can be really helpful to start taking detailed notes in your classes, especially in subjects where there's a lot of information to remember. If you take notes, you'll get dual reinforcement of the information from both auditory and visual sources. This might be the extra push you need to get the most out of your time in class, especially if you're more of a visual learner. If you can raise your GPA to a 3.2 (which is a very manageable goal!), you will be a competitive applicant at more than double the number of schools you were competitive for at a 3.0.On the flip side, if you let your grades slip and end up with a 2.8 GPA, you will be competitive for less than half the number of schools than with a 3.0. Don’t let that happen! Don't freeze on me now... If You Don’t Have Time to Raise Your Grades: Study for the SAT and ACT Standardized test scores contribute strongly to your chances of admission at most colleges. In many cases, they are nearly as important as your GPA.If it’s too late in the game for you to improve your grades, raising your standardized test scores is the best way to impress colleges.Check out some of our other articles for advice on how to formulate a study plan and improve your scores significantly before the next test date. Plan Out Your Application Essays Another way to improve your chances of admission is to make sure that your collegeessays are well-thought-out and meaningful.I would recommend that you start planning your essays well in advance if possible, ideally at the beginning of the summer before senior year. This will give you more time to brainstorm what makes you unique and how you’ll contribute positively to a college community. Colleges are looking for students who are passionate about academic subjects and extracurricular activities. If you have a special perspective that you can offer on something that’s important to you, make sure you showcase it in your essay. It would be cool if you could just set up an adorably quaint workspace like this and your essay would write itself. What Other Options Do You Have for College With a B Average? If you know that it’s too late to do much to improve your grades before you apply to college, you have a few options.A 3.0 GPA means that you'll be a competitive applicant at many colleges, though you may have to lower your expectations to accommodate less selective institutions.See our information page onwhat colleges you can get into with a 3.0 GPAfor a better idea of where you stand. College is definitely within reach, so you shouldn't worry about being universally rejected if you choose your schools responsibly. Another option that many students don’t think about is going to a community college for a year and then transferring out to a more selective institution.Your grades are high enough to get into a regular four-year college, but you could potentially earn a degree from an even better school and graduate with less debt if you go the community college route initially. If you get good grades during your time in community college, youcouldleverage them into a transfer spot at a more competitive school. This strategy will benefit both your wallet and your ultimate job prospects if you’re willing to put in the hard work during your first year of college and take initiative in the transfer application process. You'll save a whole suitcase of money if you go to community college for a year. Probably. It depends on the denominations. Conclusion If you have a B average in high school, you'll be able to get into a number of less selective institutions. However,if you want to improve your chances of admission at competitive schools, you should work on raising your GPA. If it’s too late for you to make changes to your GPA, work on raising your standardized test scores and crafting a great application essay instead. You might consider going to community college for a year and then transferring to a more selective school to finish up your degree, but you can also apply to less selective four-year colleges. If you’re still a freshman or sophomore, keep working hard to improve your grades!Even a small improvement can make a big difference in the college admissions process. Learning of Mathematics in Secondary Schools Essay

Learning of Mathematics in Secondary Schools - Essay Example Today, in whatever domain of work we look into, we always find the impact of technology continuously revolutionizing those fields and industries. The education industry is no exception. When looking deep into various disciplines of studies to analyze the actualized as well as potential impact of technology, we come across the fact that the understanding of the subjects which are very conceptual in nature, increases many folds. Mathematics is one of them. Furthermore, especially in secondary classes in Singapore, when the course of mathematics starts to get more conceptual and complex, it becomes essential to let the students visualize various concepts using multimedia, which would otherwise be impossible to demonstrate. Thus this study aims to analyze the impact of use of Information and Communication Technology in the enhancement of learning of Mathematics in the secondary schools of Singapore, particularly in the assessment aspect of teaching. Information Communication Technology i s too broad area to be analyzed as a whole, thus we would restrict ourselves to the impact of multimedia technologies only. This specification leads us to our research question, that is, This literature review is aimed to look at the work relevant to the issue that has already been done. Thus, first of all we would start with defining the term multimedia, without as well as within the context of Information Communication Technology. Moving further, we will analyze the various researches done on the issue of teaching methodologies and its relation with technologies. The term 'relation' here includes the advent, the nature and level of integration of technology and teaching over time and impact. Moving further, we would review the literature on how the multimedia technologies can facilitate the teaching of mathematics. Lastly we would try to analyze that keeping in view the existing literature, what is the need of the proposed research. It is important to be clear in very beginning that what perspective of multimedia we are considering, in order to avoid any ambiguity. In a literal sense, the word multi means many and media means the plurality of mediums, the way of delivering some thing. The type of information that is considered as part of media are diversified, it includes, text, graphics, animations, sounds and video clips. The list is not exhaustive; with the evolution of technology new types of media keep on being added. For example, initially only text was the media to be used, then graphics and then sounds, animations and clips and so on. When we speak of the term multimedia in terms of information and communication technology, it has been defined as Multimedia is communication that uses any combination of different media; it may or may not involve computers. Multimedia may include text, spoken audio, music, images, animation, and video. . Multimedia programs are often interactive and include games, sales presentations, encyclopedias, and more. From this definition we can infer some

Explore how love and lovers is presented in Romeo and Juliet and The Labrotory Essay Example for Free

Explore how love and lovers is presented in Romeo and Juliet and The Labrotory Essay Explore how love and lovers is presented in Romeo and Juliet and The Labrotory. Love. Love is a feeling of a deep romantic or sexual attachment to someone, An intense feeling of deep affection. Love in Romeo and Juliet is a brutal, powerful emotion that captures individuals and catapults them against their world, and at times, against themselves. In The Laboratory love is presented as a unpleasant feeling, filled with jealousy, obsession and overall revenge, which is also a dramatic monologue which evokes the audiences emotions. Love is another important thematic ingredient in Romeo and Juliet, which presents various types of love: the sensual, physical love embraced by the Nurse; the Traditional or contractual love represented by Paris; and the passionate, romantic love of Romeo and Juliet. love is Too rude, Too boistrous, and it pricks like a thorn. In The laboratory Browning explores the jealousy and vengeful of someone disappointed in love, and how far they would travel to be happy themselves and see their lover suffer who has previously made her suffer. In the opening scene of Romeo and Juliet we are introduced to Romeo and Benvolio. Romeo reminisces about Rosaline which evokes the lovers experience of daydreaming about his beloved, but in such a jumbled way, that its more frustrating than enjoyable.Mis-shapen chaos of well-seeming forms However this scene presents that Romeo is in love with Rosalines beauty. Romeo receives unrequited love which makes him feel melancholy and depressed. This can also be described as fickle love as he falls in and out love quickly. Romeo is in love with Rosaline at the start of the play, which is presented as an immature infatuation. Today, we might use the term â€Å"puppy love† to describe this. Romeo’s love for Rosaline is shallow and nobody really believes that it will last, including Friar Laurence. Thou chidst me oft for loving Rosaline Romeo is speaking in rhyme throughout this scene. He says, Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs, Being purged, a fire sparkling in lovers eyes. From this the reader may assume that Romeo takes love very seriously, it is also represents a stereotypical form of love poetry. This may indicate that there is nothing special about his love with Rosaline. In this scene Romeo also uses oxymorons to describe his love for Rosaline. He describes love as sick health. This illustrates the idea that he is confused and not making any sense because he is talking in an irrational way. Benvolio tells Romeo to Examine other beauties. This quotationportrays the idea that maybe Benvolio has seen this before from Romeo and he knows the time will come when Romeo will fall in love with another lady. The audience will feel that Romeo is acting like a lovesick teenager. Likewise in The Laboratory the women is suffering from unrequited love and is consumed with evil and twisted thoughts. Shes feeling betrayed and paranoid she refers back to them as laughing at her, imagining her at church praying for her lover to return back to her. While they laugh, laugh at me, at me fled to the dearer William Shakespeare and Robert Browning both portray unrequited love and the different paths it leads to, as in Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is melancholy and sulking, however he is not doing anything to make the situation better. Out of her favor where I am in love In The Laboratory the women is creating a deadly poison due to her partner cheating on her and her receiving unrequited love. The women deals with the situation in a very pitiless, demanding way. Grind away, moisten and mash up thy paste Love between Romeo and Juliet is the main love portrayed in the play. Our classic idea of romantic love is embodied in Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare presents this as a force of nature, so strong that it transcends societal conventions. This idea is established in the play’s prologue with the line â€Å"a pair of star-crossed lovers take their life.† Romeo and Juliet still love each other and don’t let their hatred of each other’s family get in the way of their love. â€Å"Love give me strength, and strength shall help afford†. Romeo being hurt and melancholy at the beginning of the place make the audience question does he truly feel love or not. Romeo falls for Juliet as soon as he sees her, Which Shakespeare describes as love at first sight. Did my heart love till now? Shake spare also portrays that Romeo falls in love with Rosalines and Juliets appearances, due to it being love at first sight. He describes Rosaline as the moon which is beautiful but the moon always goes down when the sun rises who is Juliet. As a rich jewel in an Ethiops ear-Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear The same as in The Laboratory the women believes her ex partner has feel in love with not the womens personality but her looks. Shes not little, no minion like me!, That why she ensnared him: this will never free Both play and poem portray that the men have fell in love with the womens looks. Romeo falls for Juliet as soon as he sees her which obviously tells the readers that he fell in love at first sight with her beautiful face, likewise the man has cheated on left his partner to be with a more curvy women, again falling for her looks. A love we are introduced to in Romeo and Juliet is the love between Juliet and the Nurse which is such of a mother and daughter, It portrays warmth, trust and laughter. Juliet loves her mother in a dutiful daughter way, but they do not have a warm, close relationship. All the nurse wants is for Juliet to be happy and this is why she helps in forgetting the family feud and helping Juliet marry Romeo. This effect Shakespeare portrays adds great effect and makes the relationship between Juliet and the Nurse similar to if the Nurse was the actual mother of Juliet. â€Å"I nursed her daughter that you talked withal†. In the Laboratory no such love is presented. Its as if the women is alone in the world which is causing her to go insane. However it could also be said that the women is confiding in the old man, as he is the only one who knows about her plan as did the nurse with Juliets plan. She is so thrilled with her plan, she celebrates with the apothecary. You may kiss me, old man, on my mouth if you will! Both Shake spare and Browning portray love in similar but different ways. Juliets affection with the nurse is positive and merry, with girlish talks, However The women in The Laboratory is showing love to the old man just for full filling her evil command. In The Laboratory and Romeo and Juliet tradition plays a very large role. Paris’ love for Juliet in Romeo and Juliet is born out of tradition, not passion. He has identified her as a good candidate for a wife and approaches her father to arrange the marriage. Although this was the tradition at the time, it also says something about Paris’ staid attitude towards love. Younger than she are happy mothers made. Also in The Laboratory Browning does not make any direct or uniform attacks on organized religion. He does not use any references to religion or tradition as it would of made the poem calm, and without them it gives the poem a more horrific, evil tone. Many of the friendships in the play are as sincere as Romeo and Juliet’s love for one another. The close relationships between Juliet and her Nurse, and between Romeo, Mercutio and Benvolio are meaningful and heartfelt. They care deeply for another and protect each others honor – this ultimately costs Mercutio his life. This platonic love is offset by the sexual innuendos made by some characters – particularly Juliet’s Nurse and Mercutio. Their view of love is earthy and purely sexual, creating an effective contrast with Romeo and Juliet’s romanticism. At the beginning of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is very upset which gives Mercutio and opportunity to involve humor and sex. Oer ladies lips, whos straight on kisses dream. He uses more sexual innuendo throughout the play when the subject of love is mentioned. The Nurse also links love and sex throughout the play. This is more marked when she finds out Juliet is to marry Romeo. We can see how excited she is about the physical opportunity for Juliet because she comments immediately on Romeos physical traits. His face be better than any mans. Although both Mercutio and the Nurse refer to the sexual act, the Nurses language is crude and lacks the refinement of Mercutios wit. Here Shakespeare presents to us a member of the lower classes, deprived from a formal education. Also Juliet awaits Romeo to consummate their marriage, she refers wholeheartedly to her sexual desires having bought the mansion of a love, but not yet possessed it suggesting that she recognizes the contractual element of marriage and desires to experience the physical side. Juliet also refers to white as snow on a ravens back which implies that her virginal purity is set against the darkness of the blood that she will lose as her hymen is split. Love is portrayed, therefore, as being courtly and flirtatious in the early scenes but sexual and foreshadowing death in the later scenes. In The Laboratory there is no use of sexual language however the women believes that her partner and the women Elise commit sexual acts. Where they are, what they do: they believe my tears flow The word flow could also be described as the women crying a river. Her tears as soon dried up and is happy by the end at the death of her rival and suffering of her lover. The language used in the Laboratory has various features such as; alliteration, personification, metaphor etc. Alliteration is used to add affect and give the reader a repetitive sound. brand, burn up, bite, moisten and mash, poison to poison thee, prithee Also the use of exclamation marks shows excitement, and reinforces the delight. In the same way Shake pare has also used various literary devices. such as oxymorons Poor living corpse, closed in a dead mans tomb! Dramatic irony, indeed, I never shall be satisfied / With Romeo, till I behold him-dead- etc. Poison is often the weapon of choice for female killers. It requires little or no physical strength to administer, and can be done secretly. It also leaves little evidence thus making it difficult to detect the culprit. In both Romeo and Juliet and The laboratory the females use poison, which leads to death. However Juliet also dies by suicide. and the women in The laboratory dies from the poison. Browning writes ‘The delicate droplet, my whole fortunes fee’ showing that she’s incredibly dedicated in getting this guy and she’s spent her whole fortune on the poison and she’s not going to give up until the deed is complete. Romeo and Juliet has become forever associated with love. The play has become an iconic story of love and passion, and the name â€Å"Romeo† is still used to describe young lovers. Shakespeare’s treatment of love in the play is complex and multifaceted. He uses love in its many guises to thread together the key relationships in the play. In the Laboratory the womens anger and revenge seems controlled as looking at the structure, all stanzas are end-stopped, indicating some clear structure and thought behind the lady. Hence, any sympathy we had for her almost disappears as she must know she is doing bad being that her state of mind is quite clear.

Love Lost - Female Submission in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream :: Midsummer Nights Dream

Love Lost - Female Submission in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream After first seeing a performance of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, I would have called it a love story. After reading it several times, I am less sure what it is. I will take a closer look at the behavior and context of the characters to understand how a comedy with three marriages and as many as seven lovers almost concludes without a portrayal of love that satisfies me. The pairings I consider are: Theseus and Hippolyta, Hermia and Lysander, Helena and Demetrius, Helena and Hermia, Titania and Oberon, Titania and Bottom, and Pyramus and Thisby. Theseus and Hippolyta’s relationship is the most dignified in the play. They show a desire to get along and they are comfortable sharing experiences and feelings important to them (1.1.1-11; 4.1.111-126). Theseus tenderly dominates Hippolyta: â€Å"Come, my Hippolyta. What cheer, my love?† (1.1.122; 4.1.185). Hippolyta however never reciprocates his use of terms of endearment such as â€Å"my love† and â€Å"fair queen.† In addition, the mythical context of their relationship is foreboding. We are reminded that Theseus is able to marry Hippolyta because he kidnapped her (1.1.16-1.1.19). The mythical Hippolyta later either dies in childbirth, or fighting against the Amazons by Theseus's side, or Theseus leaves her for another woman, Phaedra, and the story gets more sordid after that.[1] Theseus’s reputation as ravisher of women is addressed in the script (2.1.74-80). And the Amazon method of perpetuating their tribe is not romantic.[2] Our perception of Lysander and Hermia’s love develops in the following events: Hermia chooses to become a nun rather than submit to marrying the man her father has chosen for her; Lysander comforts Hermia and shares his plan to elope; They lose their way in the woods and negotiate sleeping arrangements; Lysander deserts Hermia to pursue Helena and to kill his rival, Demetrius. While the initial event establishes a traditional love-story scenario, departures from a Cinderella and Prince Charming characterization occur: Hermia responds disrespectfully to the Duke (1.1.53) and Lysander makes a scornful remark to Demetrius and Egeus (1.1.93-94). When Lysander comforts Hermia and they plan to elope, they show they are well-versed in the nature of mythical love (1.1.132-155). That they have this level of awareness contrasts painfully or comically with their later lack of self-possession. The exuberance of their rhetoric contrasts with the gravity of their situation, and I cannot conceive of these lines being performed in a way that could evoke deep feeling.

Lifestyle Disease

Definition of Lifestyle disease Lifestyle disease: A disease associated with the way a person or group of people lives. Lifestyle diseases include atherosclerosis, heart disease, and stroke; obesity and type 2 diabetes; and diseases associated with smoking and alcohol and drug abuse. Regular physical activity helps prevent obesity, heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, colon cancer, and premature mortality. ‘Lifestyle diseases’ such as heart disease, some cancers and diabetes, which are no longer a problem just in wealthy nations.Globally 14. 2 million people between the ages of 30-69 years die prematurely each year from these diseases. These diseases have emerged as bigger killers than infectious or heridetary ones. Risk factors for these diseases include tobacco use, unhealthy diets and physical inactivity. Today we will take look at the most common lifestyle diseases that you need to take care. Some of the diseases which occur are due to the wrong lifestyle. They are mainly due to the drugs, tobacco smoking and chewing, alcohol consumption, lack of physical activities, heavy junk food, over tension, no social life, lot of traveling, no specific eating habits and changes in eating hours, etc. It was observed that in many European countries in second half of the 20th century, people changed their food habits. They started consuming more and more meat, diary products, Alcoholic beverages; they had reduced the consumption of bread, potatoes, rice, and maize flour. This reduced the intake of essential nutrients which were beneficial for the body at the same time they reduced doing physical exercises. This created an increase in ‘Cancer' percentage amongst the masses. Due to large consumption of junk food and doing less exercises many started suffering from various heart aliments. Some of the common disorders and diseases amongst the masses due to wrong lifestyle are:- 1) Alzheimer's 2) Asthma 3) Cancer 4) Type 2 diabetes 5) Heart disease 6) Chro nic renal failure 7) Depression 8) ObesityLifestyle diseases are known as silent killers. Due to industrialization there was advancement in the life of the people according to that lifestyles changed, they started consuming junk food and did a very little physical activity. In the long run it started creating problems. Prior to 1940's the main causes of deaths were Malaria, typhoid but after that due to changes in lifestyle more and more deaths occurred due to the Cancer, Heart attacks, Diabetes. Can we prevent these diseases? Yes, we can prevent those diseases by changing our lifestyle.Following are the some important steps which can counter-attack the ill-effects of our wrong lifestyle: 1) Performing regular exercises. 2) Balance diet. 3) Reduction in unnecessary food consumption. 4) Avoiding junk food. 5) Proper eating times and habits. 6) Regularly doing yoga to refresh your mind and body. 7) Doing Meditation. 8) Sharing your thoughts with your friends Summary Wrong eating habit s, less exercises, junk food are the main causes behind the deadly lifestyle diseases. More and more deaths are occurring due to this. Let's change this and enjoy a healthy life.

GCSE maths coursework Essays

GCSE maths coursework Essays GCSE maths coursework Essay GCSE maths coursework Essay For this piece of GCSE maths coursework I have been asked to investigate the relationship between the total of a three-step stair on a number grid and its position on the grid. The stair will be on a 1010 number grid like this:919293949596979899100818283848586878889907172737475767778798061626364656667686970515253545556575859604142434445464748495031323334353637383940212223242526272829301112131415161718192012345678910I would need to find the total for stairs on the grid. For example the one shaded in red:45+35+25+36+26+27=194I would then tabulate this result and move the stair one square to the right so then I would get.46+36+26+37+27+28=200I would then continue moving it to the right until I am unable to anymore.Part 1:I will start of in the bottom left hand corner and work myself to the right of the grid.Position 1211112123The total for this stair is:21+11+1+12+2+3=50Position 2221213234The total for this stair is:22+12+2+13+3+4=56Position 3231314345The total f or this stair is:23+13+3+14+4+5=62I will now tabulate these results and others.Position Number (Lowest number in grid)12345678Total5056626874808692From looking at my results I can see that when I move the stair shape left by 1 column the total increases by 6 each time. I am going to try to find a formula to explain the relationship between the position and the total. For the rest of my investigation when I refer to n it will be the lowest number in the stair (The number in the bottom left hand corner). If you look at:25+26+27+35+36+45=194You can get the following formula:n+(n+1)+(n+2)+(n+10)+(n+11)+(n+20)=194Which if you simplify gives you a general formula of:6n+44=TotalI can prove this formula works by looking at my table once more. And adding some more to itPosition Number (Lowest number in grid)12345678Total5056626874808692DifferenceBetween Totals66666666As I mentioned above the difference between each stair total is 6. This shows that 6n is somewhere in the formula. I will now see what relation 6n has to the stair totals.6n612182430364248Total5056626874808692The value for 6n and the stair total are different. The total is larger which means the formula must be 6n+?. I will see what the difference between the total and 6n is to get the value of ?:Difference4444444444444444You have to add 44 to 6n to get the total of the stair. So now you can see the formula for the three-step stair is 6n+44 like I stated above. This formula should work for obvious reasons. If you look at position 1 the biggest number is 21 and the smallest 1, meaning there is a difference of 20 between them. This will be the same anywhere on the grid. In the stair below there is a difference of 20 between 94 and 74. This relationship between the numbers remains the same anywhere on the grid and that is why my formula works anywhere.I will now test to see if my formula, 6n+44, does work.948485747576The total for this stair is:74+75+76+84+85+94=488For this stair shape n=74. I will now substit ute numbers into my formula 6n+44.=(674)+44=444+48=488As you can see the answer gained from my equation is the right stair total for the stair given. I will now test for another stair to prove my formula does work54+55+56+64+65+74=368n=54=(546)=44=324+44=368I have now found and proven a general formula for a three-step stair on a 1010 grid. I will now extend my investigation further.Part 2:I will now extend my investigation by posing this question. Will my formula, 6n+44, work on different sized stair shapes on the 1010 grid? If not can a formula be deduced to find out the total for any size stair on a 1010 grid.Since I already have results for three-step stairs I will begin my investigation with a four-step stair. A four-step stair on the grid will look like this919293949596979899100818283848586878889907172737475767778798061626364656667686970515253545556575859604142434445464748495031323334353637383940212223242526272829301112131415161718192012345678910Position 1The total for this sta ir is:1+2+3+4+11+12+13+21+22+31=120Position 2The total for this stair is:2+3+4+5+12+13+14+22+23+32=130Position 3The total for this stair is:3+4+5+6+13+14+15+23+24+33=140Position 4The total for this stair is:4+5+6+7+14+15+16+24+25+34=150I will now tabulate these results and those for other 4 step stairs.Position Number1234567StairTotal120130140150160170180I will see whether 6n+44 will work to find the stair total for 4 steps. I will use position 1 as an example.n=1=6n+44=(61)+44=6+44=50As you can see the formula does not apply to four step stairs. Now I will try to find a formula that does apply to four steps.Since this time there is a difference of 10 between the totals I now times n by 10 in my equation. I will see what 10n looks like compared to the totals.10n10203040506070StairTotal120130140150160170180Difference110110110110110110110The same way as with the three steps 10n does not equal the total it is larger. The difference is 110 so the formula for four step stairs is 10n+110. I will now test my new formula.61+62+63+64+71+72+73+81+82+91=720n=61=10n+110=(1061)+110=720You can now see that my formula for the four step stairs is correct. I will now try five step stairs.Position 1The total for this stair is:1+2+3+4+5+11+12+13+14+21+22+23+31+32+41=235Position 2The total for this stair is:2+3+4+5+6+12+13+14+15+22+23+24+32+33+42=250Position 3The total for this stair is:3+4+5+6+7+13+14+15+16+23+24+25+33+34+43=265Position 4The total for this stair:4+5+6+7+8+14+15+16+17+24+25+26+34+35+44=280Position 5The total for this stair:5+6+7+8+9+15+16+17+18+25+26+27+35+36+45=295Position 6The total for this stair:6+7+8+9+10+16+17+18+19+26+27+28+36+37+46=310Position Number123456StairTotal235250265280295310For five step stairs I believe that I will have to work out a new formula. Since the totals increase by 15 each time in my equation I will have to 15n.When comparing 15n to the totals I find:15n153045607590StairTotal235250265280295310Difference220220220220220220I have to add a number to 15n to get the stair total. From my table you can see that this number is 220.The formula to find the total of any five-step stair o a 1010 grid is:15n+220I will test my formula.n=5555+56+57+58+59+65+66+67+68+75+76+77+85+86+95=1045=15n+220=(1555)+220=825+220=1045So my formula for five-step stairs does work as shown above.I will now try to find a general formula to find any size step on a 1010 grid. To try and find a pattern I will keep n the same, n=1, and change the stair size. For now in all stairs n=1One step stairThe total is1+0=1Two step stairThe total is:1+2+11=14Three step stairThe total for this stair is:1+2+3+11+12+21=50Four step stairThe total for this stair is:1+2+3+4+11+12+13+21+22+31=120Five step stairThe total for this stair is:1+2+3+4+5+11+12+13+14+21+22+23+31+32+41=235Six step stairThe total for this stair is:1+2+3+4+5+6+11+12+13+14+15+21+22+23+24+31+32+33+41+42+51=406Seven step stairThe total for this stair is:1+2+3+4+5+6+7+11+12+13+14+15+16+21+22+23+24+25 +31+32+33+34+41+42+43+51+52+61=644I will now try to find a pattern with my results.n1111111Height of Stair1234567Total114501202354066441st Difference1336701151712382nd Difference23344556673rd Difference11111111From looking at this table I am able to recognize a new idea, that in the final formula the number of 11 and heightà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½.I will make a new table to try and find out more.(h=height of the square)n1111111Height of Stair1234567+11h31188297704137523763773-11h-11-22-33-44-55-66-77Total066264660132023103696h3182764125216343Stair Total11450120235406644As you can see no pattern is obvious from this table. When I was looking at the formula, 6n+44 I noticed that when you multiply it by 2 the n value is a multiple of the height of the stair. I decided to check if this was the same for the other formulas.h345Formula6n+4410n+11015n+220hx2122030hà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½91625The relationship is the same and I put in hà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ to see if there was a pattern. From the table you can see that the t hird row equals hà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½+h. This could not be used in a formula because it twice as large so to use it in my general formula it would have to be:n(hà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½+h)2This is the first part of my general formula but it is not complete and I need a second half. From looking at the differences in stair total and the totals from 11hà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½-11h I believe I have found the second part of my equation. When looking at the total of 11hà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½-11h when h=2 I saw it equaled 66. The formula for a two-step square is 3n+11. 66/11=6. I wondered if dividing 11hà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½-11h by six on other heights would work, To check I made a table:n1111111Height of Stair1234567+11h31188297704137523763773-11h-11-22-33-44-55-66-77Total066264660132023103696Divide by 601144110220Total1n+02n+116n+4410n+11015+220So every time when 11hà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½-11h is divided by 6 it gives the right number in the second part of each formula. So I now have a complete general formula to find out any sized stair anywhere o n a 1010 number grid. The formula is:n+(hà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½+h) + (11hà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½-11h)2 6However I will need to test this formula:T: Total of the stairn: Stair number (the number in the bottom left had corner of the stair)h: The height of the stairn=72 Three Step Stair:T=72+73+74+82+83+92=476T=n((hà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½+h)/2)+(11hà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½-11h)/6T=72((3à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½+3)/2)+(113à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½-113)/6T=72((12)/2)+(264)/6T=72(6)+44T=432+44T=476For this one the answer is correct now I will try another sized stairn=55 Five Step Stair:T=55+56+57+58+59+65+66+67+68+75+76+77+85+86+95=1045T=n((hà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½+h)/2)+(11hà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½-11h)/6T=55((5à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½+5)/2)+(115à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½-115)/6T=55((30)/2)+(1320)/6T=55(15)+220T=825+220T=1045Now since I have tested it twice I am sure that my formula is correct and will work for any size stair anywhere on in the 1010 grid. Now looking back I see what else I could have done to improve my investigation. Instead of changing stair height I could have instead changed the width of the grid or the height. I could also have changed the width and length simultaneously i.e. 55, 66, 77.

A Poem from Aeon Entelechy Evangelion by Earthscorpion

Many a star must have been there for you so you might feel it. A wave lifted towards you out of the past, or, as you walked past an open window, a violin gave of itself. All this was their mission. But could you handle it? Were you not always, still, distracted by expectation, as if all you experienced, like a Beloved, came near to you? (Where could you contain her, with all the vast strange thoughts in you going in and out, and often staying the night. ) But if you are yearning, then sing the lovers: for long heir notorious feelings have not been immortal enough. Those, you almost envied them, the forsaken, that you found as loving as those who were satisfied. Begin, always as new, the unattainable praising: think: the hero prolongs himself, even his falling was only a pretext for being, his latest rebirth. But lovers are taken back by exhausted Nature into herself, as if there were not the power to make them again. Have you remembered Gastara Stampa sufficiently yet, that any girl, whose lover has gone, might feel from that intenser example of love: Could I only become like her? Should not these ancient sufferings be finally fruitful for us? Isnt it time that, loving, we freed ourselves from the beloved, and, trembling, endured as the arrow endures the bow, so as to be, in its flight, something more than itself? For staying is nowhere. Voices, voices. Hear then, my heart, as only saints have heard: so that the mighty call raised them from the earth: they, though, knelt on impossibly and paid no attention: such was their listening. Not that you could withstand Gods voice: far from it. But listen to the breath, the unbroken message that creates itself from the silence. It rushes towards you now, from those youthfully dead. Whenever you entered, didnt their fate speak to you, quietly, in churches in Naples or Rome? Or else an inscription exaltedly impressed itself on you, as lately the tablet in Santa Maria Formosa. What do they will of me? That I should gently remove the semblance of injustice, that slightly, at times, hinders their spirits from a pure moving-on. It is truly strange to no longer inhabit the earth, to no longer practice customs barely acquired, not to give a meaning of human futurity to roses, and other expressly promising things: o longer to be what one was in endlessly anxious hands, and to set aside even ones own proper name like a broken plaything. Strange: not to go on wishing ones wishes. Strange to see all that was once in place, floating so loosely in space. And its hard being dead, and full of retrieval, before one gradually feels a little eternity. Though the living all make the error of drawing too sharp a distinction. Angels (they say) would often not know whether they moved among living or dead. The eternal current sweeps all the ages, within it, through both the spheres, forever, and resounds above them in both. Finally they have no more need of us, the early-departed, weaned gently from earthly things, as one outgrows the mothers mild breast. But we, needing such great secrets, for whom sadness is often the source of a blessed progress, could we exist without them? Is it a meaningless story how once, in the grieving for Linos, first music ventured to penetrate arid rigidity, so that, in startled space, which an almost godlike youth suddenly left forever, the emptiness first felt the quivering that now enraptures us, and comforts, and helps.

A real world example of how science has been misused and report on the Essay

A real world example of how science has been misused and report on the subject - Essay Example e modern information technologies, which are obviously the by products of the growth of science, are very effectively employed by governmental agencies and the international bodies of administration. But, it is alarming to note that information technology devices are so effectively used by terrorists and criminals as well all over the world, which obviously is a serious misuse of science and its development. Two major areas where science has made drastic changes are in the fields of nanotechnology and information technology and there is no doubt that these are two areas where its misuse takes dominant forms. Between the two, scientific develops in nanotechnology assumes greater significance as many of the scientific inventions that led to the making of atom bombs, nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction has posed great threat to international peace and security. My attempt in this short essay is to deal with the misuse of science with regard to nanotechnology. Nano-science and Nano-engineering form the basis for nanotechnology. Nano-technology applies to many fields and its misuse can turn human life into misery. Developments in nanotechnology have given rise to the formation of new atomic and nuclear weapons. When Albert Einstein developed the theory of mass-energy equivalence, E=MC2; no one thought that it would pave the way for a nuclear age. But the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United states during the second world war (August 1945) was a shock to the international community and from then onwards we do find an international competition among world nations to be nuclear powers, and many have attained nuclear power so far. The great amount of funding spent on nanotechnology and related fields (very often in the name of national defense) by world nations is quite shocking. A research conducted by US nanotechnology consultancy revealed that â€Å"the total spending on nanotechnology R&D worldwide exceeded $8.6 billion in 2004. US
